Where can Pures PK

Introduction

In my opinion Pures are not as good as Main/Barrows accounts for earning money – not because they can’t kill people effectively, I think many are more effective based on a kill to death ratio.  The problem that I have with them is that most Pures tend to be poor or PK in armour which has little value.  You can’t count on being able to smite out a Pure’s one item (if your pure account even can smite/soul split) and generallyI think that seeing as if you’re good at Hybrid/Dharok pking very little can compare to the constant income you can gather from this.  However Pures are getting richer and can be found risking millions of gold just like everyone else, the difference being that it’s usually not quite as consistent.

Either way they’re still very profitable and incredibly fun to PK on, especially since nowadays you can make some truly insane Pure Accounts.

Pure Account Requirements

I tend to be able to give specific requirements, but there are so many different types of Pures you have a lot to choose from.  The most popular pures are Chaotic Turmoil pures which gain up to 28 defence or choose to raise their defence further to essentially become Rune/Adamant pures.  There are Ranged Tanks which are very popular as well and are especially good at earning gold, finally there’s your classic one defence pure with 60 Attack with various maximum combat stats.  Later on I’ll go over all the different types of account and give you my honest opinion on which is the best one.

Most Popular Pure Accounts

There are literally dozens of different types of Pure account and I’ve been thinking of which is the best ‘one’ to write about.  As it turns out this was an impossible task because there are literally so many different good ones for so many reasons.  As a website designed to money making I’ve decided to write about those which are purely there for bringing in the GP.

There are three incredible Pure accounts which I’ll talk about, Range Tanks, Turmoil with Chaotic Maul pure and finally the classic 60 attack pure.

Range Tanks

After going to Edgeville to watch pure fights, asking on forums and watch PK videos I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to which account is the best for earning money the Range Tank comes out on top.  Personally I hate them.  Sitting there clicking vengeance and waiting for a Dragon Bolt Special Attack isn’t my idea of fun at all.  If you can make money and have fun that’s perfect because you’ll be able to do it for longer and make more.  On the other hand not everyone’s like me, and if you’re purely in it to win it then a Range Tank comes out on top.  Its defence bonuses means that it dies infrequently and its powerful ranged levels gets a lot of kills.  It’s also not too difficult to train because red chinchompa training allow a rapid ranging level increase and their defence level and their ability to wield abyssal whips means that training their defence isn’t too difficult either.

What’s more is that their earning potential is far greater because some of the richest ranged tanks risk Pernix armour, Amulet of Furys and so forth.  It’s not uncommon at all for them to be risking easily millions of gold.  This means that with a mastered understanding of hit timings as outlined in my Pking Guide you can expect o make substantial gains.

The perfect levels for this account are 99 ranged, 99 defence, 75 attack/strength and 94 magic for vengeance.  Of course those are alterable and you don’t need 99 defence 90 would easily suffice.

Turmoil with Chaotic Maul

This is the kind of account that I would love to pk on because you can hit so incredibly high and have such a tremendous advantage over your opponent.  Even if Ranged Tanks are better for making money I’d still go for this one because it would be so much fun that you’d probably be able to PK on it for longer and make more money anyway.  Assuming you’re not fighting accounts with turmoil and there’s no reason to believe you will be because it’s currently very rare.  You’ll be easily able to hit 600s and higher with a Chaotic Maul meaning that you’ll be simply devastating other pures.  Mixing it up a little bit you could hybrid range/melee using knifes or a short bow before rapidly switching to your maul for the KO hit.

One disadvantage of course is that the pures they’re fighting will generally be risking much less than themselves.  However you can still expect to make 500k-1million gold per kill if you pick the right opponents and of course win your fight.

The Perfect Levels are of course 95 prayer, 99 strength and at least 80 Dungeoneering and 80 Attack.  After this there’s plenty of variation such as either having 94 magic or not, high ranged or not.  Essentially to create an effective killing account all you need is the Chaotic Maul, Turmoil and 99 strength; anything after this is just a handy addition.  However because of the quests required for Turmoil you will end up getting around 28 defence which you might as well level up to 30 defence so you can wield better armour.

60 Attack Pure

I wasn’t sure what else to call this one, but it’s essentially the classic Dragon Weapon wielding pure which is one defence.  It uses primarily Dragon Weapons, usually a Dragon Dagger or Dragon Claws.  This is the most inferior type of Pure but I’ve decided to talk a little bit about it because it’s also a very popular classic pure.

The levels for this classic pure are 60 attack, one defence, 99 ranged, 99 magic, 99 strength and the prayer levels can vary substantially.  You can be 1 prayer, or have 13 prayer for the +10% strength increase, 25 prayer for protect one item, 31 strength for +15% strength bonus, 43 prayer for defence against melee or 52 prayer or smite.  There are a lot of different prayer variations and you just have got to go with what suits your account.

Earning Potential

I did quite a lot of research on this because the truth is when I had my last maxed pure the best special attack weapon was the Dragon Dagger so its been awhile.  Never the less, after scouring Edgeville, Forums and Pking videos I’ve gained a really good idea of how much the different account types can stand to earn.

Ranged Tanks profits vary based on who they fight, but the good news is that although they only stand to earn a 250-550k from fighting pures or other tanks they can arrange fights where there’s much greater amount of risk.  As I mentioned above pernix is sometimes risked but obviously that’s a lot of gold and more likely 2-8million gold risks will be employed.  This takes a little more time to find people to fight but the plus side is that as long as you’re altering hit timings as per my Pking Guide you should have no problem getting consistent kills which means substantial earnings on your part.

Chaotic Maul Pures win the vast majority of the their fights for two reasons, first their ridiculous offensive bonuses and also by getting turmoil they level up to 28 defence so many sacrifice a few combat levels to wield rune.  This would make them a rune pure if anything, but Rune armour is a massive step up from initiate and Adamant so they stand have both very powerful offensive and defensive bonuses.

Finding regular pures will earn them similar amounts to Ranged Tanks, on the other hand if they go a little further north of Edgeville they can expect to fight hybrid pure accounts or ranged tanks who are risking in excess of a million gold – and so with their added advantages will earn a lot of gold.

60 Attack Pures are outdated, weak accounts by today’s standard of supercharge tanks and pures.  On the other hand with high ranged levels to cause consistent damage, perhaps with a magic short bow or rune crossbow with Dragon Bolts (e), combined with 94 Magic for ice barrage and dragon claws as the special attack weapon they definitely can make an impact when it comes to hybriding and combat scenarios where my skill is involved.  Most people will make more gold with Ranged Tanks, Chaotic Maul Pures because frankly they don’t take that much skill to PK using and people tend to over rely on their accounts weapons/levels as opposed to much skill fighting.

On the other hand a maxed 60 attack pure stands to make more gold if they have the levels but more importantly the skill to use their account properly.  Most people can’t do this which is why they avoid this type of account, but I’d say they can definitely outmatch other accounts if the proper pking tips and techniques are utilized.

Where can Pures PK?

When it comes to Ranged Tanks they shouldn’t have a problem Pking anywhere because of their high defence levels and armour stats.  However just because they can survive fighting in the Magic Bank just as well as main accounts doesn’t mean that they’ll excel at actually getting kills.  I would suggest that they stick to the other three main pking spots, East and West Dragons and Edgeville.  At the different Dragons spots they can hybrid magic/ranged pk to good effect, and at Edgeville they can range tank with vengeance.

When it comes to chaotic turmoil pures Pking at the MB is definitely a bad idea and East Dragons would be just as dangerous due to the high number of Barrows Pures that would be just able to attack them.  On the other hand they would excel in Edgeville, north of Edgeville and the West Dragons area.  Due to the high prayer and defence level of this type of pure account they end up at around 100 combat, which means if they were to venture much higher than level 10 Barrows pures would mercilessly target them and have significant gear advantages.

I would say nearly the same is similar of 60 attack pures, although on the other hand they’re not actually risking that much gold so really they shouldn’t have too much of a problem Pking anywhere.  On the other hand if they’re seeking profit and I assume they are, everywhere apart from the Magic Bank are good places to fight at.  Even East Dragons Pking is fine because they’re out of range of Barrows Pures and anyone 15-20 levels below the level of average Barrows PKers isn’t going to be fighting there because they’ll be getting destroyed.  This means there’s an opening for lower combat PKers around 90 and below to be able to PK without having to fear substantially higher levels coming and killing them.

Requirements

As I’m sure you can imagine the first obvious requirement is the ability to wear Rune armour and have 40 defence.  After this I would say that having vengeance is also incredibly important for Rune Pking because you can get a lot of kills using it.  After this everything else is really up to you, you could have 50 attack, 60 attack, 70 attack, 75 attack etcetera based on what weapon you’d like to bring.  I personally think that either a Chaotic Maul/Rapier is the best, but the classic abyssal whip would still do well.  Having 90+ strength is obviously also important because you do need to be able to hit the high figures.  Having ranged isn’t important at all but prayer is very important and I would personally recommend 95 prayer for Turmoil, but failing this 70 prayer for piety at least!

There’s so much variation it’s difficult for me to state the requirements, but I would say the must haves are 94 Magic for vengeance, 40 defence for Rune and at least 70 attack and 90 strength and 43 prayer.

The best level set up would be 80 attack/Dungeoneering for Chaotic Rapier, 99 strength, 95 prayer for Turmoil, 99 magic and 99 ranged so you had a little variation in your Pking to keep you interested and having fun.

Finally using Hotkeys is really important if you want to excel at Pking, find out why by reading my Runescape Hotkeys page.  Pking without using your F keys is like pking without vengeance it’s honestly that big of a difference and I’m annoyed at myself that it took me two years to bother to learn it even though it only actually took me a day to master.

Rune PKing Section

Here’s the basic Rune Pking set up, notice the rune full helm because 45 defence is needed for the Helm of Neitzinot.  Also it would probably be best to take a Dragon Defender, I tend not to take one when I pk because I PK a lot, die a lot, kill much more than I die but it’s still not personally worth my time getting Dragon Defenders.

Rune PKing Gear

Rune PKing Gear

This set up is slightly different and the account for this must have 45 defence.  It’s clearly geared far more towards extra strength bonus with it having the Amulet of Strength which gives an extra +4 strength bonus on top of the Amulet of Glory.  The Helm of Neitzinot gives an extra +4 defence bonus on top of the regular Rune Full Helm.  This extra 8 strength bonus may not seem like a lot but in real terms in increases your maximum hit by 40 damage which isn’t anything to be scoffed at

Neitzinot Rune PKing

Neitzinot Rune PKing

This is the Rune/Neitzinot Pures special attack mode as I like to think of it.  Obviously you can use any special attack weapon but I prefer Dragon Claws because if you utilize what I outlined in my Pking Guide to create artificial kill situations you can use your special attack on them twice and only give them enough time to eat one rocktail and sip one saradomin brew (if that).

Rune PKing Special Attack

Hybrid PKing Section

The gear which Rune Pures use to hybrid PK in is somewhat limited to mystic/rune however they can of course splash out on more expensive Corrupt PVP Equipment such as Corrupt Zuriel’s robes however these are very expensive considering you can only wear them for 15 minutes.  That’s just wearing them not even combat, on the other hand one tip I’ll share with you is that because most of the items are unpopular with players they’re quite close to their high alchemy value which means that you can wear them for 10-13 minutes and then cast high alchemy to result in a minor loss.  On the whole though I think you’ll be sticking to Mystic and Rune!

When it comes to hybrid PKing the only places that rune pure hybrid can operate are Edgeville and the West Dragon Spot.  If they go to the Magic Bank they will surely be destroyed by Main/Barrows accounts, and the same is true of the east dragon’s spot.  On the other hand they’ll have a big advantage when it comes to pking in the lower level wilderness areas because they’ll have significant level advantages and will be fighting pures with far inferior equipment.

The set up below is pretty standard and you’ll notice a big emphasis on magic attack bonuses.  It’s not an expensive gear set up, but it’s a compromise position between price and gear bonuses.  The key things to note are the +15% Magic Strength bonus via the staff of light and bringing just a normal unholy book for +7 attack bonuses (for all attack types) as opposed to the Mages’ Book which is worth more than all the gear and supplies put together.

Rune Pure Hybrid PKing

Rune Pure Hybrid PKing

The Magic Defence gear for hybrid Rune pure pking is pretty standard, but with 40 defence there isn’t really that much variation you can go for.  Again this is a compromise position but the melee/magic/rangd defence bonuses are quite equal across the board and I think it’s a pretty good set up considering the defensive limitations and how cheap the gear is.

Rune Pure Hybrid PKing - Magic Defence Gear

Rune Pure Hybrid PKing - Magic Defence Gear

Finally this is the melee defence/attacking gear, standard stuff apart from I think an Obsidian shield is preferable to a dragon defence for the defence bonuses, and of course the Saradomin God Cape and Seers ring for extra magic attack bonuses.

Welfare PKing

Welfare PKing is cheap, fun and is a safe way to start PKing and earning cash at the same time.  Below I’ve posted some gear pictures, but if you’re really struggling for gold you can easily substitute the amulet of glory for an amulet of strength, Barrow’s gloves for Rune Gloves and so forth.

The benefits of welfare PKing are obvious you risk little, but you have a good chance of killing your opponents for four reasons.  Firstly you have a powerful special attack weapon (AGS is best but Dragon Claws would suffice) which can obviously hit 660s.  Secondly you have a consistent damage weapon, in this case a magic short bow, whose job it is to gradually decrease your opponent’s health.  Next you have a weak defence bonus which allows you opponent to hit high figures on you, and finally you have vengeance.

You use your magic shortbow to gradually decrease the life points of someone in better gear risking much more.  You vengeance at the correct time, and because of your low defence bonus your opponent is likely to hit a high figure on you.  At the same time you pull out and use your special attack weapon to finish them of.  It’s a very effective and a pretty fun way of PKing which gets you into PKing but at a low risk, and you start to see returns pretty quickly.  This is especially useful if you utilize the art of manipulating hit timings as outlined in my during the fight section below.

Welfare Gear

Welfare Gear

Personally I think the Armadyl Godsword is the best Welfare special attack weapon.  The reason for this being that if your Dragon Claw special attacks fail you can still use it as a KOing weapon without it similar to F2P pures that switch from their shortbow to their rune 2H sword.

Inventory Set Up

Most people have a really old style of setting up their inventory which doesn’t apply to today’s fast paced style of Pking where most people have very fast internet connections/computers/reactions and use Hotkeys for even quicker reflexes.  This can of course be adapted for Hybrid or Welfare PKing but the most important thing is for you to have the right frame of mind and pick your items and positioning based on what makes sense and will assist you in a fight and by extension earn you more gold.

YRune PKing Inventory

Rune PKing Inventory

To start with I’ve placed the items least likely to be used such as the Vengeance runes and the ring of recoil out of the way of anything important and furthest away from anything which they may interfere with.

The Special Attack Weapon (Dragon Claws in this instance) are placed at the bottom left, where a hotkey switch will place them right over the special attack bar.  This reduces the time taken to switch and use your special attack and this reduces those times where you ‘know’ you would have killed them if only you’d been able to attack in time using your spec.  Notice that I’ve also purposefully left one space above it which is rocktail free.  At the start of a fight is a good time to use your special attack and if you’re wasting time trying to drop it you can miss a good potential kill opportunity at a time when your opponent is just starting to get into the fight.

Unusually there are rocktails in the top left hand of the corner; this is so they’re within easy reach of rapid clicking.  If you’re using a special attack and you’re on low life points it’s always advisable to quickly eat in case they use vengeance which they do a lot of the time.  Getting doubled KOed is irritating and by position the rocktails next to the Saradomin Brews you can save yourself in many different types of situations.

The teleport table is just a little below the Saradomin Brew, if you’re about to die then of course you should try to Rocktail-Brew but if you know you’re going to die on their next hit then having the teleport tablet right next to the Saradomin brew is only going to increase your chances of survival by teleporting out.

During the fight

I’ve written precise instructions on how to create artificial kill situations, minimize your opponent’s kill situations all through hit timing manipulation.  If you’re knowledgeable about hit timings, kill situations and the random kill effect then please check out my two main examples (these are found on my PKing Guide link below) for how to apply these to kill around 80% of your opponents.

If you don’t know much about this topic, then check out my Pking Guide for a look at how to win around 80% of your fights once the technique is mastered.

Conclusion

I’d say of pretty much all the types of Pking, Rune Pking can be the most profitable especially if you have Turmoil and Chaotic Weapons.  On the other hand you tend to PK gear which isn’t in high as value as Barrows Pures or Main Accounts so there’s a compromise between how much you can earn against what the people you’re fighting are wearing.

But I think it’s also important not to just look at things from a perspective of purely earning gold.  You need to enjoy what you’re doing and Pking in Rune is definitely enjoyable.  Dharoking can be pretty boring because the defence bonuses are so high but with this style of Pking that’s nowhere near as much an issue.  Definitely an account worth creating because of the monetary benefits and the massive amount of fun you’ll have playing them.  You can also ear Mystic and go hybriding with Ancient Magicks in rune/mystic and this is also a lot of fun, the account is far more versatile than people think.

Runescape Green Dragon Bot

The amount of bots on Runescape that are killing the Green Dragon monster are reaching incredibly high levels in some areas of the game.  Now I don’t usually bother spending time checking these sorts of things out, but I’ve kept reading in the forums about bots here, there and everywhere.  The truth is my money making on Runescape isn’t where there are bots at all, and what’s out of sight is out of mind.

What are Runescape Bots?

Runescape bots are primitive programs which are created on programs such as Visual Basic and perform a number of tasks which are normally done by players.  Firstly the scripts which run the bots analyse the Runescape game screen looking for clues as to the location of the bot, where green dragons are, its inventory and so forth.  If the inventory is full of green dragon bones and hides, the program will recognize this and run back to the bank or teleport back.  It will analyse the screen, go to the bank, analyse the screen, find the banker, bank the items and so forth.  It usually analyses the color of monsters, items as well as their dimensions and so the camera perspective tends to move around a lot so it can gather enough information.

Some bots are very primitive (I remember testing out a bot on a pure I made around 5 years ago) and they must have improved significantly from them because I remember it being so terrible as to not even be worth my time.  On the other hand a bot which is clever enough to assess the game environment and act in a way which is productive is clearly a winner, the loser being all the non-bot Runescape members of course.

Where can I find bots?

You need to think very carefully about whether you should use bots or not because my Original main account was actually banned for auto alching.  There’s definitely a chance of getting banned and there’s also a good chance of downloading spyware.  It’s unlikely you’ll get a really vicious Trojan horse virus or anything of that nature but your computer could easily become part of a botnet or be hijacked for other prospects which would slow down your computer significantly.

Googling the bot you want would be the best method, but it’s against the rules, and I would seriously recommend not botting on your main account and making sure you scan the file you download and read reviews on the website you downloaded it from because from personal experience you can and will get primitive viurses.

Can I Make my Own Bot?

If you have programming and coding experience you can, but it’s definitely the sort of thing you need to have studied or be willing to commit easily hundreds of hours to.  There’s not some sort of step by step free guide if that’s what you’re looking for.  This isn’t as easy as downloading the bot and you’re entering the realm of computer science and it is a difficult topic.  However if you’re patient, hard working and a smart learner there’s no doubt in my mind that you’d be able to master creating bots.

Current Bots on Runescape

Bots tend to be mining pure essence, cutting trees, fishing fish and killing green dragons and I haven’t do any of those things for about five years.  But what I can’t understand is why people are using them in the first place because the amount of money they earn must be so slow considering they’re competing with about 20 other bots.

I was recently in the Chaos Tunnels under Edgeville looking for the Green Dragons and when I stumbled across them (it took me far longer than I thought) I was amazed to see how many bots there were.  I thought there would be a good few maybe three or four but we’re talking easily 20 bots.  I asked who wasn’t a bot and only one person out of everyone there replied.

Botting is Not the Way Forward folks…

I realize that you can make good money from green dragon botting but the amount they earn must be so slow and they must be making their entire computer unaccessible by having these bots running in the background.  From me I think that if people stopped being lazy and botting and started putting their heads together and brains into action they can find far better ways to earn gold in Runescape.  They could find methods which firstly didn’t ruin the game for people who actually need to kill them for their gold.  Secondly they could have fun making the gold, and thirdly they could make a lot more.

On the other hand most people are lazy and just do what they think is easiest, they’d much rather sit by a fire and let it go out rather than feed it some wood and put some stones around it to keep it burning longer.

Check out my Green Dragons money making guide, it’s based on the western dragons above the dark mages at around level 12.  If you follow my guide and techniques you can make around 500k-1 million gold per hour, and seeing as it’s the wilderness (last time I checked) there weren’t any bots.

One thing you might want to try out is taking some PKing gear and trying to kill the bots for their hides/bone yourself!  This would definitely earn you gold much quicker than bothering to gather the bones yourself.

Good luck!

Members’ Loyalty Programme – The New Batch

So theres been a new batch of member’s loyalty benefits and most of them are simply upgrades of many of the previous auras.  Either ‘Great’ or ‘Greater’ has been added in front of the: Poison Purge aura, Surefooted aura, Lumberjack aura, Quarrymaster aura, Five finger discount aura, Sharpshooter and finally Reverence aura.  I’m not going to bother talking about these because they’re essentially the previous auras but with very minor improvements ranging from 1-3%.  I will however talk about the new auras that have come out.

There are the new:

Resourceful aura which Gives a 1/10 chance of not depleting a resource when mining, woodcutting when gaining items from them; but it can’t happen twice in a row.  It costs 23,000 Loyalty Points and is active for one hour, taking three hours to recharge.

I think this could be particularly useful for some aspects of Money Making on Runescape, I think this will be only useful for high level mining for example rune rock mining where the difficult part is finding rocks which haven’t been mined.  I can’t think of any woodcutting examples that are similar, however if you like to AFK train cutting ivy it may be of some help.

Equilibrium aura which reduces the maximum damage of your successful hits by 25% but increases your minimum damage by 25%.  Now correct me if I’m wrong (and I may very well be I’m not Mathematician) but it seems to me like this cancels out itself.  It takes 23,000 loyalty points to purchase and is active for two hours with a four hour cool down period.

Inspiration aura increases your special attack bar by 0.2% if you hit any damage whatsoever – I would imagine this would be very useful if you had a quick attacking weapon such as knives.  It costs 23,000 loyalty points as well and can be activated for one hour with a recharge time of three hours.

I think this one would be especially good for any monster killing activity which used special attacks because it would almost be like having special attack restore potions.

Vampyrism aura causes any hits you deal which cause any damage whatsoever, within combat, to regain life points equal to 5% of the damage you deal out.  This costs 23,000 Runescape loyalty points and can be activated for one hour with a cool down time of 3 hours.

Penance aura allows you to regenerate your prayer points equal to 1/5th of any damage which is dealt upon you in combat.  Like all the others it costs 23,000 loyalty points, it can be activated for one hour with a three hour cool down period.

Wisdom aura Increases all experienced earned by 2.5%, this is in any skill but is not stackable with bonus experience weekend.  It costs a whopping 40,000 loyalty points and can only be activated for 30 minutes every 24 hours.

Summary

Frankly, although I think that some of these auras are useful, some are definitely not particularly helpful such as the Equilibrium Aura.  If I were to go for any of them then the Wisdom Aura is what I would go for, it would just be incredibly useful for skills like summoning.  Just 30 minutes a day getting experience from creating pouches would be so much more useful and time saving than slight combat advantages.

Personally I’ve not signed up to the Member’s loyalty programme because I’m not particularly comfortable with handing out my personal details, or having them linked to my Runescape account.  Emails can and do get hacked, it would be easier to hack an email account then a Runescape Account as long as you knew the email address - and have you seen how many Facebook Runescape accounts there are set up nowadays anyway.

The Different Fighting Styles and Associated Gear in the Best Pking Areas

Barrow’s/Whip PKing

Dharok PKing

Hybriding PKing

Barrow’s Pure Requirements

Pking on a Barrow’s ‘Pure’ as the name clearly implies definitely involves using Barrow’s armour, it’s the entire point of the account.  I personally feel that these are one of the best if not the best type of Pking account to have, because you have the best of both worlds in terms of offensive capabilities due to the high attack/strength while still maintaining reasonably high defensive bonuses with regards to using Barrow’s armour – and all while having a reduced combat level to boot.  What’s more is it’s not limited to a specific fighting style and can be used in various roles making it far more interesting and satisfying to PK on.  As opposed to a ranged tank with vengeance for example who just sits there with vengeance and Dragon Bolts (e).

Stats for a perfect Barrow’s Account should be as follows:

99 Attack/Strength/Magic/Range

95 Prayer, 70 Defence, 99 Constitution

Now obviously these stats are very difficult to achieve, I’m going to also put down the recommended levels for a lower end Barrow’s account – and point out what levels they must have and why.

70 Attack, 90 Strength, 94 Magic, 70 Ranged

70 Prayer, 70 Defence, 80 Constitution

You’ll notice right away that the magic level still remains high; this is because whether the account is fighting using melee or Hybriding is irrelevant because it must have at least 94 Magic to use either Vengeance or Ice Barrage.  This is a definite must and their use amongst other Barrow’s accounts is so widespread that without it you’re at a massive disadvantage.

You’ll also notice that its Attack Level is only 70, this is so it can use an abyssal whip which is vital for either Melee or Hybrid Pking.  Without it you would have to use a Dragon Scimitar and similarly to having a low magic level the disadvantage to the account is just too great.

90 strength may seem reasonably high but being able to hit high figures at a comparatively low combat level is the corner stone of a Barrow’s Account, whether it’s melee/hybrid Pking it’s very important still.

70 Ranged is not needed so that the account can use ranged, since most Barrow’s ‘Pures’ do not use it, but it’s purely so Karil’s/Black Dragonhides can be wielded when Hybrid fighting.  Of course if you just want a melee account then you don’t need 70 ranged, but then you’re severely limiting the account.

70 prayer for piety is clearly not ideal with the amount of accounts that have turmoil out there, but it is still better than nothing and with the correct ability will hold up reasonably to other account types.  The same is true of 80 Constitution, clearly higher would be better but it’s an ok starting point.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements I would suggest that you train and come back to this page.  You may be eager to PK and start earning gold, but you’ll be very disappointed very quickly due to the inherent disadvantage you’ll constantly be at.  You’ll waste coins on supply and gear and you’ll realize you have to train up anyway; oh and the time spent figuring this out was time you could have spent training in the first place.

Introduction – Earning potential

When it comes to Barrow’s Accounts I’d say they have greater money earning abilities than main accounts.  Admittedly they may not be able to PK in excessively expensive gear which requires 70+ defence, but they can still fight in Barrow’s gear and with supplementary items such as amulet’s of fury, berserker rings and so forth they’ve still got a lot of money earning potential ahead of them.

I would say that specifically their money earning potential is similar to that of Main Accounts but is actually higher.  The reason for this being is that they’ll be fighting in similar gear/fight styles – such as Dharok’s, Torag’s, Ahrim’s and s forth.  But they’ll be able to fight weak main accounts as well as inferior Barrow’s pures.  Instead of it being like Main accounts fighting where everyone has maxed combat level or are near maxed (and hence everyone is equal) it’s the exact opposite with Barrow’s ‘pures’.  They can prey on the weak is essentially what I’m saying.

For Dharok Pking I see no reason why they can’t easily hit that 20 million gold per hour mark with the correct technique.  I personally think that because of the advantages that Barrow’s Accounts have that I’ve stated above it would be more than possible for them to earn around 25 million gold per hour.

Whip and Barrow’s Pking is also very popular for this type of Pking account, and 10 million gold per hour is a reasonable estimate.  This might not be as effective as you’d think because it’s quite easy to master which means that everyone’s pretty much as good as everyone else.  It’s only with Hybrid and Dharok Pking where the skill level is very high and so the better PKers end up earning far more than the worse ones.

Hybrid Pking is by far the most lucrative for an account with the correct levels if the technique is there.  Many Hybrid account are constantly risking anywhere form 15-45 million gold and so as you can see winning just a few fights can send you up 100s of millions of gold; or down the same amount if you’re not good enough.

The Different Fighting Styles and Associated Gear in the Best Pking Areas

When it comes to Pking the three fighting styles I’ve mentioned above are the most profitable for consistent money.  It is definitely possibly to be fighting in 200k gear and kill someone for 20 million gold, but these kills are rare and cannot be counted upon.  It’s far better to get good at consistently one versus one fighting people where you know you’ll make money as long as you have the correct technique.

I would say for Dharok’s Pking you can either go down the helm risk, non-helm risk or non skulled Dharok’s risk.  Obviously I suggest helm risk, but if you’re starting out then start small before progressing upwards.  World 18 at Edgeville is your best bet, but if you’re just risking Dharok’s it’s better to go to a non-protect item world so you’ll definitely get the loot every time.  The same is true for Whip and Barrow’s Pking; world 18 is the place to be.  Now for hybrid Pking if you’re in a clan you can pretty much go wherever you want; although I’d hesitate going to the Magic Bank due to Main Accounts clans.  However for one versus one hybrid fights then northern Edgeville spanning all the way up to the Green Dragons is where people tend to fight the most and it’s a good place to start.

Barrow’s/Whip PKing

When it comes to this style of Pking the guide I wrote is almost the exact same for Main Accounts as it is for 70 defence accounts.  Therefore I’ve constructed it on a different webpage especially for this reason and also because it’s quite large.

Visit my Whip and Barrow’s Pking guide for more details.

Dharok Pking

Dharok’s Pking is similar to that of Main Account’s also but is much more effective because as opposed to only fighting equal fights you’ll either be fighting people equally as good as your account or worse.  You can expect to fight around 25% of people with poor stats and poor Dharoking ability.  Remember that a lot of people try out Dharoking and get disinterested after losing just a few sets.  They don’t think about what they’re doing and they certainly don’t invest their time by properly learning.

Visit my Dharok Pking guide for more details.

Hybrid Pking

Hybrid is even easier than both Dharok’s and Barrow’s/Whip Risk PKing because you’re fighting people that have even worse combat levels and even worse Pking.  What’s more is that because Barrow’s ‘Pures’ have much lower combat levels they can pick up much weaker accounts at either East or West Dragon’s spots.

Check out my Hybrid Pking guide if you’d like to learn more.

Conclusion

Barrow’s Accounts are the best to PK on for the reasons I’ve stated above, they are simply superior than other accounts for two main reasons.  The people they fight who are high combat levels have only slight level advantages, and the people lower combat levels than them are significantly weaker; but more importantly people of the same combat level as them cannot be stronger and can only be equal or worse than.  This means that they have the advantage of fighting people that are either less experienced at Pking or have worse levels.  This overall means they get more kills and earn more gold in the long and short run.

Akrisae’s

Following the release of Runescape’s latest quest – the Ritual of the Mahjarrat a whole new array of weapons/armour and spells have been added into the game.  The Akrisae’s Armour Set is part of this new addition and is proving very popular for the time being.  As with all new items which are released there’s an immediate surge in demand as everyone wants to buy it and try it out.  The vast majority of these items then either level of or fall back down to a previous level.  My own personal belief is that the exact true will be the same of Akrisae’s Armour because of its limited abilities.  Let me explain

First let’s consider both the price and the abilities of the Akrisae’s armour in comparison to other items.  The Current prices for the entire set is 11.6 million gold and you can contrast that readily to Ahrim’s which has shot up in value itself and is 4.5 million gold.  Before the update however it was only around 3.5 million gold so its price has been artificially increased.

Note: If you’d like to learn more about the 6 main methods of earning gold (Staking, Scamming, PKing, Merchanting, Skilling and Monster Killing) please feel free to check out my Money Making on Runescape page at your own leisure.

Now when you compare the stats of the Akrisae’s Armour Set you’ll see that its main bonuses are its +51 magic attack and its +64 slash defence.  However if we contrast that to an Ahrim’s armour set it is actually much worse because Ahrim’s has +73 Magic Attack and +85 slash defence.  So right of the bat it’s already much worse in terms of the bonuses that you’d use it for.  On the other hand it does have a set effect bonus, being that it saps the opponent’s prayer by 1/3rd of the damage at random.  This prayer drain also continues out of combat with the enemy player losing 1 prayer points every 15 seconds.

Now clearly this doesn’t have any PvP advantages but it some may believe it to have Pking advantages.  Personally I think this is far from the case and in my opinion this armour set is not worth the value it has at the moment and will crash shortly.  To start with it’s double the price of Ahrim’s and its bonuses offer very little in the way of helping out in most PvP situations.  The fact that it drains prayer is of course useful to some Pkers – I would say Hybrids at the Magic Bank would find this very useful for Hybrid Pking, but the vast majority of people that play Runescape are not PKers.  They’re not just not PKers, but if they are they’re not trying to wear down people’s prayer they’re just fighting normally and even if they were trying to wear down their opponent’s prayer it’s still not worth the exaggerated 11.6 million gold.

Akrisae’s is bound to crash and it’s only a matter of time before it does, if you have this armour set I would recommend selling it pretty quickly.  It’s a smart move to merchant it right at the start but holding onto it for any great length of time will not be a wise move when it crashes.  Judging by its stats and real value in Runescape as opposed to the novelty of a newly released item then it’s clearly equal to and probably a fair amount worse than Ahrim’s.

It is not suitable armour for most PKers and it also takes 70 prayer to wield and so it actually has higher requirements, at double the cost for an inferior piece of gear that won’t be of use to much people at the moment.

This armour can obviously be purchased on the Grand Exchange but it is also gathered by completing the Barrow’s Brothers minigame as we’ve all come to know and love.  By completing the Ritual of the Mahjarray quest you gain the ability to fight the new Barrow’s brother Arkisae the Doomed.  When you can fight the new brother you then get a chance to collect the items from loot in the central chest after completing a round of Barrow’s.

I think this could definitely be a profitable and lucrative source of income at the moment because the prices are extortionately high and will continue to be so for the time being, but I wouldn’t expect this to last for long however.

Arkisae the Doomed is classed as the seventh Barrow’s brother and his tomb is connected to Verac’s.  He attacks with melee and switches his prayers according to whatever fighting style his opponent is using against him.  He can be killed quite easily by constantly switching to different attack styles such as mage, melee and ranged.  Remember that he’s only combat level 115 and his attacks are not accurate at all, he has 1000 life points and so overall he’s not tough to kill.

I’ll conclude this article by saying that Akrisae’s is destined to rise in value and then drop substantially.  Its uses are limited and its costs excessive, the current value does not represent the actual worth of the item to players and it definitely will drop soon enough.  In the mean time it will be a good source of money because if you can gather the equipment set pieces while they’re still expensive you’re sure to make a quick few coins at a pretty easy minigame!

Whip and Barrow’s PKing

Whip and Barrow’s PKing

When it comes to high stakes Pking, risking an Abyssal Whip and Barrow’s gear is a good place to start at (or potentially Rune if you’re very short on cash) because you aren’t risking too much but the gains are still worthwhile and it’s not particularly complicated like Dharok’s/Hybrid Pking for example.

This guide is applicable to Barrow’s ‘Pures’, Main Accounts and anyone that can wield Barrow’s and meets most of the general requirements.

General requirements

You must have Turmoil and the vengeance spell.  You can still earn money without them but you need near-perfect technique.  If you don’t have them you can still earn a lot of gold but you just need to make sure you’re fighting people that have similarly limited spells and prayers.  This doesn’t mean you can’t earn gold, but it won’t be as quick – and fighting people with those enhanced abilities will be difficult.  You must also have a Special Attack weapon such as an Armadyl Godsword or Dragon Claws.

Barrow’s PKing Gear

Barrow's and Abyssal Whip Risk

Barrow's and Abyssal Whip Risk

Now of course you can adapt this gear lay out if you so wish, but I really think that this is the best to use.  It’s a compromise position between cost, and defensive/offensive bonuses.  There are some items which I think should just stay the same for most people.  These are the Dragon Boots, Abyssal Whip, helm of Neitzinot, Ring of Recoil, Teamcape, Barrow’s gloves and the Amulet of Glory (charged).  This is most of them, and I’ll explain the logic behind the use of them as opposed to their alternatives.

However items you can change are definitely replacing the Dharok’s with Torag’s because they’re cheaper (I only keep Dharok’s sets in my bank), and perhaps the Toktz-Ket-Xil shield.  Possibly the Armadyl Godsword but I still this it is the best Special Attack weapon.

Dragon boots is a non-brainer, they’re cheap and there aren’t any real alternatives which you can use.  The Abyssal Whip is also in this category, you need to so you’re risking and people fight you and it’s also a cheap and effective consistent melee weapon.

Now some people take a Torag’s Helm seeing as it’s only around 120k now and it provides a better melee defence bonus.  I can definitely feel where people are coming from, but I actually think that having too high a strength bonus is a disadvantage not an advantage.  People are mainly killed via a combination of vengeance and regular/special attack.  If your defence bonus is too great it may save you sometimes, but it limits your ability in this respect; it also limits your strength bonus.  You can take one if you so wish, but I’d prefer to hit a higher special attack hit, with my vengeance more likely to hit greater damage.  Just remember that if you’re manipulating hit timings as per my Pking Guide there should be only a small chance of you dying anyway if you are doing things correctly.

There is no debate on the mighty Ring of Recoil, you definitely take one and don’t even think about taking a Warriors’ Ring.  A Warrior’s ring gives you greater potential chance to hit your opponent.  A berserker ring gives you a greater potential chance to hit more damage on your opponent.  A ring of recoil gives you a definite chance to damage your opponent because as long as you are dealt damage it will definitely recoil.  Kill Situations occur predominantly when you are damaged and the combination of your vengeance, your ring of recoil and your own hit kill your opponent.  The ring of recoil is the perfect ring because it activates to do definite damage to your opponent at a time when you need it the most.  It’s very cheap and very useful so you should always be using it – I actually take two because they’re that useful to me.

Some people prefer to bring a legends cape, skillcape or an obsidian cape over that of a teamcape.  On the surface this ‘may’ seem like a good idea, and if you’re a lower combat level always fighting people higher than you it is a good idea.  On the other hand most people are fighting others that are similar in combat level, a little higher/lower than them and should always be bringing a teamcape despite not getting the best bonuses.  Remember that your time is money, the majority of PKers will not fight you if they cannot one click you so you are limiting the amount of potential targets.  You are also limiting yourself because you cannot fight some people because you won’t be able to one click them.  This means you get to fight less people, and although an extra +10 slash defence bonus may help a tiny amount in the long run it’s only going to do you massive harm because you’ll fight less people and earn less overall. Time is money, don’t waste your time for a pathetic defensive bonus it is not worth it.

Barrow’s gloves are mandatory, obviously if you don’t have them bring the best you can but apart from you should always bring them.

An Amulet of glory (charged) isn’t in my opinion as superior to the Amulet of Strength that many people seem to think.  On the other hand as I said above your time is your money, and an amulet of glory allows you to teleport back to Edgeville near the end of the fight, restock and be back ready to kill your opponents within 45 seconds.  Considering that it’s too close to call which is better, the amulet of glory or strength; purely for the fact it saves you time and hence increases your earning potential I’d go for the glory amulet every time.

Where there’s a decent reason to alter the gear from the set up is definitely to replace the Dharok’s with Torag’s; it’s just as good and cheaper.  Also I wouldn’t replace the Toktz-Ket-Xil with a Dragon Defender, but perhaps with a Dragon Square shield.  This has increased melee defensive bonuses and it can soak up 5% of melee damage too.  It’s ten times the price and it has no strength bonus, but for me that’s not that important because you should be killing people with your Special Attack Weapon and Vengeance most of the time anyway.

A lot of people seem to have some sort of infatuation with Dragon Claws, perhaps it’s because they’re cheaper.  Whatever the reason is I don’t think they’re as good as the AGS for two main reasons.  The first one is that good PKers can tell how much damage the Dragon Claws will hit from their first hit and react in a way which is beneficial to them.  For example they’ll see they’re not at risk of dying, cast vengeance and use their special attack weapon.  Also compared to the Armadyl Godsword I’d definitely say that they’re much less accurate and considering the high melee defence bonuses of the Barrow’s armour I would say you need greater accuracy.  Of course I’ll use the opposite argument for using the Armadyl Godsword, you get one hit and so you can’t predict the hits and use them against your opponent.  You either eat in time or potentially die.

I realize that from an outside perspective I may seem slightly picking about what to wear and why, but there’s a reason behind everything I do/wear.  What’s more is if you feel I’m incorrect about something I’m more than happy to adjust the guide as long I’m logically incorrect.  For me Money Making on Runescape is something which needs to be highly calculated and though out; most people simply are not like that which is why most people are doomed for failure.

Best Standard Whip/Barrow’s Inventory

Barrow's Whip Risk Inventory Set Up

Barrow's Whip Risk Inventory Set Up

The inventory is set up in a manner which reduces the time taken for everything so that every response is as quick as possible.  The AGS is at the bottom so that when you use the Runescape hotkeys to quickly switch to the Combat Styles tab so you can use your special attack.

The runes and extra Ring of Recoil are far out of the way of anything important and is specifically placed in the bottom right hand corner/side to not interfet with anything.

There are rocktails close to Saradomin Brews and Super Restores at the top left corner, this is so once you’ve used a special attack you’ve mouse has a shorter distance to travel to your most important food because they’re right at the top in the left corner.

I also take one prayer potion incase I do a ‘Prod Spec’, which is where you drink a dose of potion to disguise a special attack.  I feel that it’s much less wasteful than using a super restore and I definitely wouldn’t use a Super Attack/Strength because they’re far too useful to just waste.

Potions and Food

You should at this level of risk definitely have Rocktails, Saradomin Brews, Super Restores/Attacks/Strengths.  The stakes are too high for basic shark or regular potions or anything ridiculous like that.  This will be quite obvious for some people, yet I still sometimes kill people using Sharks and Restore potions from time to time.

Who to fight and Where

You should try and fight anyone that looks like they don’t know what they’re doing, for example in gear that doesn’t necessarily make sense (an amulet of power).  People that have silly names or low combat levels are also good targets.  Who not to fight includes people with names such as ‘PK Death Cult’ or anything that sounds too threatening.  If you are only looking to fight the weaker people then stand around, and decline anyone who asks to fight you.  If people are asking to fight you then they’re confidence and confidence is usually based upon ability.  Wait for people to ask you, decline them and then ask someone who’s just standing around.

Before the Fight

Before the fight you should drink a sip of Saradomin brew followed by a restore/super restore potion and then your super attack/strength at the bank.  Then bank these potions, take out some fresh potions, pray the berserker prayer and then cast vengeance.  This essentially gives you five doses of potion and it also means you can use the Vengeance spell twice within 30 seconds right at the start of the fight which is great if you want to go in for an early KO.

Make sure to pray protect one item, Turmoil and lastly deflect magic.  The first two are self explanatory, but deflect from magic stops some players pulling out a korasi’s sword and using your negative magic defence bonus to kill you; it also reduces the effectiveness of PJers.

During the Fight

I’m going to leave this section blank and instead direct you to the Two Examples found on my Pking Guide, these outline exactly how you should be fighting for this fighting/gear style.  It’s very important you read this, and it has its own page because it applies to other forms of Pking as well.

Fighting Tips

Remember that the two examples I gave aren’t the only ways to kill people, ‘Prod Specing’ as outlined in my Pking Tips section is a good method of killing people when time to use the best Special Attack methods are running out.  It’s far better to use your special attack in slightly worse situations that not use it at all.

Remember that if you find that they’re on reasonable low life points with them being ready to use a special attack.  Go ahead and vengeance and rocktail-brew, or just rocktail/brew depending on how many life points you have and what you believe their maximum hit to me.  There’s no point risking yourself standing there, and you can turn one of their kill opportunities into one for yourself.

Conclusion

This type of Pking is a good place to start entering the realm of high risk Pking, but just remember that it’s the start of the journey and by no means the end.  It’s a decent step up from Rune Pking but it’s still relatively simple in terms of the skill level required.  It being so simple means that most people can get quite good at it, if you follow manipulation of hit timings and so forth you’ll definitely have a significant advantage – but with Dharok’s this is even more pronounced.

If you’re new to this, go out, learn it and master it and then get ready to move onto the next stage – Dharok’s – and then onto Hybriding and even skulled Bandos Fights.

Runescape Hotkeys

Using Hotkeys on Runescape is critical for a number of tasks, the first and most important is Pking but it also has applications within monster killing and Staking.  Personally I’ve only started using hotkeys in the last 6 months or so, and like many people I thought they didn’t make ‘that’ much of a difference and so I kept putting of learning them.  The reality is that that was an excuse for my own laziness and the truth is they help out so much it’s unreal.  If I had known how useful they would I would have started using them as soon as they came out, but you don’t realize how useful they are until you learn them so people don’t recognize the importance of learning them in the first place.  I cannot imagine Pking without them now.

I’m not going to spend too long explaining why they’re vital for Pking, but I will spend a small amount of time which will outline to you why you must start using them if you want to increase your PK abilities.  What stops you quickly using a special attack in time to kill them?  What slows you down when you’re switching gear?  What about changing prayers?  Being a good PKer is being able to change gear, prayers and so forth as quickly as possible.  If you can master using these keys, you will become a better PKer and hence your money making on Runescape will be even faster.

So what slows down changing these things?  It’s not how fast we think, we think very quickly and we know what we should be doing.  What slows us down is the literal distance that our mouse has to travel because even if we know what we should be doing, nothing changes the fact that we need to move our mouse the set distance.  We can only increase how fast our hand moves the mouse so much, and this mainly happens by experience.  So why not dramatically shorten the distance involved without having to spend time trying to make your hand move faster?

Let’s look at some examples below; the first example is a special attack on your enemy.  Without hotkeys it would go, you click special attack weapon, switch to the Combat Styles tab, click special attack and then your opponent.

Slow Special Attack Weapon Switch (No Runescape F Keys)

Slow Special Attack Weapon Switch

Slow Special Attack Weapon Switch (No Runescape F Keys)

Slow Special Attack Weapon Switch

Now Let’s take a look at the diagrams when using Hotkeys for your Pking switches.

Now first thing you’ll notice is that the Special Attack weapon is at the bottom of the screen, this is so that you can wield your weapon, hotkey and then press to special attack instantly.  This is not applicable to the regular slow switching and would actually make it even slower.

Runscape HotKeys

Runscape HotKeys

Runescape HotKeys

Runescape HotKeys

As you can tell by the examples, you’re essentially reducing the amount of distance you need to move your mouse by around a third.  Now seeing as you’re reducing the distance taken by one third this will have a proportional knock on effect to your reaction time.  What’s more is that seeing as you have less distance to travel you’re also less likely to make a mistake seeing as you have less time to.  Also if you realize that you need to eat some food, you can just switch right back to your inventory in one button as opposed to having to travel to your inventory tab, and then to food.

Now let’s take a look at some basic hybriding switching without Hotkeys.  The first example is changing your prayers, switching to melee armour and special attack weapon, activating special attack and then clicking your opponent.  First thing to note is that I start of in the middle of the inventory because I think that’s the most likely place your mouse will be, the pointer start over the Mages’ Book has nothing to do with the Book itself.  Also I added arrow heads in this diagram for clarity.

Hybrid No HotKeys Switching

Hybrid No HotKeys Switching

Hybrid No HotKeys Special Attack

Hybrid No HotKeys Special Attack

As you can see this takes a lot of changing of tabs and a lot of distance needing to be moved, if you want to be able to do Dharok PKing or Hybrid PKing to a high enough standard than using normal methods is simply not good enough – you perform significantly better using F Keys.  Now let’s take a look at the with hotkeys scenario.

Hybrid HotKeys Switching

Hybrid HotKeys Switching

Hybrid HotKeys Spec Attack

Hybrid HotKeys Spec Attack

As you can see the difference here when using the hotkeys is much greater, I’m not going to try and give a percentage like before – but we’re talking about a massive difference and you can easily be twice or three times faster.  When you’re in a combat situations this is such a massive difference, and I’m sure you can see the importance of using them now.  You can apply this to lots of different situations and I’ve thought it best to outline the most likely ones, but of course it’ll vary with everyone – but the highly effective results are immediate!  I would say that used in conjunction with my Pking Tips you’ll vastly increase your Pking.

The F Keys can be adjusted on your keyboard for ease of use, but personally I’m completely fine with the layout they have at the moment.  If your F keys aren’t working make sure you don’t have number lock set on your keyboard because this stops your F Keys working properly.

The Runescape F Keys are as follows:

F1 = Inventory Tab

F2 = Worn Equipment Tab

F3 = Prayer List Tab

F4 = Magic Spellbook Tab

F5 = Combat Styles Tab

As you can see they’re specifically designed for combat because the other F Keys do not go to any of the other tabs.  If you really want to become a ‘professional’ then you could actual buy a mouse with multiple adjustable buttons so that you can set them as F Keys which would mean you could switch insanely quickly – but that’s just a thought!

I hope you can now see the importance of using Hotkeys on Runescape, they’re very important for Pking and when you read my advanced Pking Guide you’ll see that they’re very important for being able to switch various things quickly.
